In John chapter 16, on His last night with his disciples Jesus tells them He has much more to say to them, more than they can now bear. BUT, when the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide them into all truth. It’s only through the work of the Holy Spirit that we can truly know Jesus.

Israel was to be a vine transplanted from Egypt that would thrive in the midst of a spiritual wasteland (Psalm 80) with God’s people enjoying the fullness of his blessings. John captures 7 “I Am” statements made by Jesus. To the Jewish listeners, they would have understood these as statements of Jesus’ divinity – and they are, but they are so much more than that to us. Today we explore the most personal of Jesus’ I Am statements.

The religious people of Jesus’ day didn’t know what to do with Him. He didn’t fit into their pre-conceived notions of God. We still struggle with that today, with our thoughts shaped by our theology, values, lifestyle and culture. But Jesus came to do something new, something that can’t be contained in old views.
